How to Write a Pilots' Resume

The key to get a hired in airlines as a pilot is not only having good qualifications but also making a strong resume. That is why, while making a resume of your own for pilot jobs, you need to take care of various things.

A good resume that attracts the notice of the recruiters over the applicant’s experiences and qualifications are sure to leave a good impression.

A resume is not a biography, so you have to be in brief while you work on your CV. The more strongly you can say about yourself in few words, in the CV, the more you will be considered as skillful as the others while applying for the post of pilots.

When you are making a CV for a pilot job, you will have to remember that, when the recruiters receive it, he or she will not look at it for more than 15 seconds. You have to seek the attraction of them in those 15 seconds. Also, you will have to be able to emphasize your skills, which will make you outstanding among others in those 15 seconds.

The parts of the resume:

While writing a resume for applying to pilot jobs in the airlines company, you have to remember that resumes are not like the other usual resumes. There should be some different segments, where different kind of information will be written needed for explaining your qualifications as a pilot. The most prominent part, which is in, need to be highlighted is the pilot credentials.

Remember that the parts like your flying hours, license and rating are what considered as most important to the recruiters. You may have a lot of other achievements, but they are not relevant for pilot jobs.  Here, we have clarified the parts which are needed to be given in the resumes made for pilot jobs.

These parts are:

The header:
In this part, the names, address and contact information will be provided. Make sure you are not providing any informal or unprofessional email address, or phone numbers here.

Objective:
In this part mention about the job post; for which you are applying. If you are posting the resume in general, don’t be too specific about what post you are applying for.

Qualification:
The most valuable part of your resume is where you need to specify your qualifications. Include only those qualifications that are relevant with pilot jobs.

Pilot credentials:
Remember that this part of the resume carries the most highlighted facts. In this part of the resume, you will specify your experience and qualification required for pilot jobs. Different parts, which are hugely, much necessary to include in this part is:

Flying times:
The most notable things, which you need, to include are your flying hours. So write it at the top of this part with bold letter to highlight it. While providing the flying hours, you need to understand that for which aircraft you are applying. Different type of aircraft requires a different type of skills.

For example, if you are applying for a jet,  applicant needs to include the total time of flying, Turbojet Total, PIC, Multi Engine, SIC or PIC Turbojet etc. On the other hand, if you are applying for a prop, you will have to include your total time of flying, multi PIC, CC, instrument and night time etc.

License and ratings:
Valid license and rating are extremely much essential for the career of a pilot. While making your own resume, do not forget to mention the list of certificates and ratings you have achieved that are relevant with the job. Also mention your type ratings in the license. Ensure that the required skills demanded in the job post is also aligned in your qualification and credential’s list.

Experience and work history:
In this segment, you will include all the history of your previous works done as a pilot. Try to keep it short and easily readable.

Education and specialized training:

In this part list the higher educational degrees you have achieved than others, will be included. If you have a good grade point, then also include it with the degrees.

Achievements and other optional segments:
If there is anything to talk about outstanding achievements or social works and other things, you can include it in the CV. This part is not mandatory to include. In this part, you can include community involvements, honorary awards, interest and other things.
Below we are providing some guidelines on writing pilot resumes:

  • The resume will be your summary of qualification and experience, and you need to emphasize these factors in the resume. While writing a CV, you have to be careful that you are including the appropriate information in the CV. The resume should not be lengthy.

  • The resume should be printed on the resume paper. These papers are available in office supplies. When you are posting your CV or dropping it to any aviation company, be careful that the CV is not folded or stickled with your cover letter.

  • The resume should not be longer than 1 page. If you cannot fit everything in one page, with standard size, look for what you can do to the font size and margins. The font should not be smaller than 10 sizes. Also use standard fonts. Do not use any kind of uncommon fonts in the resume. If you are altering the margins, maintain the balance.

  • The resume should be printed professionally. You cannot mention the word resume in the resume. Also while, making a resume, you have to be careful that you are not leaving a gap in jobs for more than two months. You will also leave your job history of adult age. Any freelance job done in high school or during this age should be written under education category.

  • Do not put the reference in the same page of the resume; always mention them in separate page.

  • Always send the resume along with cover letter.

Please remember the CV or resume promotes about what you are. So it should always be created in a way so that it gets noticed by the targeted people. At the same time, your resume has to be made and posted in a way so that it leaves a good impression.
