PARIS AIR SHOW, the Royal Air Force of Oman took delivery of Airbus Military C295 aircraft. The transfer of title will take place from Seville immediately after the air show.
The event was in the presence of Sayyid Badr bin Saood Al Busaidi, the Omani Minister for Defense Affairs and Domingo Urena-Raso, president and chief executive officer of Airbus Military, today during the Paris Air Show.
The aircraft is the first of eight ordered last year by the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) and is configured for tactical transport operations. It will be used for initial training at Seville, Spain, where it was assembled, before transferring to Oman later in the year.
The RAFO ordered aircraft in transport and maritime patrol roles. While the maritime patrol features Airbus Military’s proprietary fully integrated tactical system (FITS).
The associated integrated logistic system (ILS) support package contracted by Oman also includes a full-flight simulator to be delivered next year.
For Airbus Military it is the 100th to be delivered, a total of 121 C295s has been ordered and it is in service in 15 countries and accumulated more than 150,000 flight hours.
The Airbus Military C295 medium sized tactical airlift aircraft is designed for defense and civic mission covering maritime patrol, and environmental surveillance missions. For the role of personnel, troop and bulky/palletized cargo transportation, casualty evacuation, communication and air-dropping. It is considered dual use civil/military equipment.
The C295 is part of Airbus Military’s family of light and medium airlifters which also includes the smaller NC212i and CN235 platforms. In the fourth quarter of 2014 Airbus Military will introduce the C295W, featuring as standard winglets and higher engine power ratings.
