Etihad Airways

Corporate Profile: Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways was established by Royal (Amiri) Decree in July 2003 and commenced operations in November of the same year. Based in Abu Dhabi, the airline has rapidly evolved from a regional carrier into a global leader in aviation, known for its premium service and strategic role in the “Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.” It is wholly owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi through ADQ.

Strategic Vision and “Etihad 7”
  • The Boutique-to-Global Shift: After a period of aggressive equity partnerships, Etihad has refocused on a “sustainable growth” strategy. In 2023, it launched the “Etihad 7” plan, aiming to triple its passenger count and double its fleet by 2030.
  • Zayed International Airport (Terminal A): The move to the state-of-the-art Terminal A in late 2023 marked a new era for the airline, providing a massive increase in capacity and one of the world’s most technologically advanced transit experiences.
  • Sustainability Leadership: Etihad is a global pioneer in “Green Aviation,” utilizing its Greenliner (787) and Sustainabilitea (A350) programs to test sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), contrail management, and plastic-free inflight products.
Fleet and Network (2026 Outlook)

Etihad operates a highly modern, fuel-efficient fleet focused on two primary pillars:

  1. Boeing 787 Dreamliner: The backbone of the fleet, with Etihad being one of the world’s largest operators of the 787-9 and 787-10 variants.
  2. Airbus A350-1000: The “Sustainabilitea” flagship used for ultra-long-haul routes, offering superior cabin quietness and fuel efficiency.
  3. The Return of the A380: Due to surging demand, Etihad successfully reintroduced a selection of its Airbus A380s on key routes like London, New York, and Paris, featuring the world-famous “The Residence” (a three-room suite in the sky).
  4. Etihad Cargo: A major global player in logistics, utilizing its dedicated 777 freighter fleet and the belly-hold capacity of its passenger aircraft.
Guest Experience and Innovation
  • Premium Brand: Etihad is synonymous with luxury, offering The Residence, First Apartments, and Business Studios. Its “Economy Smart” seats are also recognized for industry-leading comfort.
  • Etihad Guest: A highly rewarded loyalty program that has expanded into a lifestyle brand with numerous global retail and travel partners.
  • Global Connectivity: The airline serves over 75 destinations across six continents, with a renewed focus on deepening its network in North America, Europe, and the Indian Subcontinent.
