Corporate Profile: flydubai

Launched in 2009 by the Government of Dubai, flydubai has evolved from a regional low-cost carrier into a sophisticated “hybrid” airline. It plays a critical role in Dubai’s aviation strategy, focusing on opening underserved markets and providing seamless connectivity through its home at Dubai International (DXB).

Strategic Vision and “Hybrid” Evolution
  • Beyond Low-Cost: While maintaining operational efficiency, flydubai has successfully moved upmarket. It now offers a full Business Class experience—including lie-flat seats on its Boeing 737 MAX fleet—and has recently announced the introduction of Premium Economy for its upcoming widebody operations.
  • Dual-Manufacturer Strategy: In a historic shift for 2026, flydubai has diversified its fleet strategy. While traditionally an all-Boeing operator, the airline has placed a landmark order for 150 Airbus A321neo aircraft to support its next phase of growth, alongside continued commitments to the Boeing 737 MAX.
  • Global Connectivity: By early 2026, flydubai has expanded its network to over 135 destinations across 58 countries, with a significant footprint in Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, and Central Asia.
Fleet and Modernization (2026 Status)

The airline operates one of the youngest and most efficient fleets in the industry:

  1. Boeing 737 MAX 8 & 9: The current backbone of the fleet, offering extended range and superior fuel efficiency.
  2. The Widebody Leap: flydubai is preparing for the arrival of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners (scheduled for late 2027), which will allow the carrier to launch long-haul routes to Southeast Asia, Europe, and Africa that were previously out of reach.
  3. Fleet Retrofit: By March 2026, flydubai is completing a multi-million dollar program to retrofit its older Boeing 737-800NG aircraft with the same high-standard cabins found on the MAX, ensuring product consistency.
  4. In-Flight Tech: Starting in 2026, the airline is rolling out Starlink high-speed satellite internet across its fleet, providing passengers with seamless streaming and connectivity.
The Emirates Partnership

The strategic partnership with Emirates remains a cornerstone of flydubai’s success:

  • Combined Network: Passengers benefit from a joined network of over 250 destinations, reachable on a single ticket with through-checked baggage.
  • Loyalty Integration: flydubai fully utilizes Emirates Skywards as its loyalty program, allowing members to earn and spend Miles across both airlines.
  • Terminal Operations: flydubai operates from both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at DXB, the latter facilitating rapid transfers for passengers connecting to and from Emirates flights.
