Founded in 1963 by the late King Hussein, Royal Jordanian is one of the oldest and most respected carriers in the Levant. From its hub at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM), RJ serves as an “Ambassador of Goodwill” for Jordan. In 2026, the airline is in the final stages of a massive strategic overhaul aimed at doubling its passenger capacity and modernizing nearly its entire fleet to support Jordan’s national tourism goals.

The 2026 Strategic Rebirth

Under the leadership of Vice Chairman and CEO Samer Majali, Royal Jordanian is executing a “Levant Hub” strategy, positioning Amman as the primary gateway for the region:

• The 60-Destination Target: By the end of 2026, RJ is on track to serve 60 global destinations, having recently added key routes such as Dallas (DFW), Washington D.C., Hamburg, and Munich.
• Regional Connectivity: The airline has resumed critical regional links, including Mosul, Najaf, and Benghazi, while significantly boosting frequencies to the Indian Subcontinent (Mumbai and Delhi).
• oneworld Alliance Excellence: As the first Arab carrier to join oneworld (in 2007), RJ remains a vital link in the alliance, offering seamless global connectivity through its partnership with 13 world-class airlines.

Fleet Transformation (2026 Status)

By early 2026, approximately 70% of the RJ fleet has been renewed, making it one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient in the Middle East:

1. Narrow-Body Modernization: The airline has inducted 12 new Airbus A320neo aircraft. Notably, some of these are configured with a new “Premium Economy” class, offering 180 seats to cater to high-end leisure travelers.
2. Regional Workhorses: The fleet now includes seven Embraer E2 (E190/195-E2) jets, providing superior comfort and efficiency for short-haul “shuttle” routes within the Middle East.
3. Long-Haul Expansion:

• Boeing 787-8: The existing Dreamliner fleet has undergone a full cabin refurbishment, including the installation of high-speed Wi-Fi and a refreshed livery.
• Boeing 787-9: In March 2026, RJ officially inducted its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a larger variant that provides increased range and capacity for North American routes.

4. Cargo Operations: RJ has strengthened its logistics arm with the introduction of the Airbus A321P2F freighter, supporting the new $40 million Air Cargo Operations Center at AMM.
