Singapore, MTU Aero Engines, the German engine manufacturer secured contracts awarded this week at the Singapore Airshow, which represent business worth some 450 million euros for MTU.
The orders are for the following engine types: the PurePower® PW1100G-JM for the new Airbus A320neo, the V2500 for standard Airbus A320 family aircraft, and the GP7000 for the Airbus A380, the world’s biggest jetliner.
The largest contracts were received from India and Qatar: Indian carrier GoAir signed a firm order for 144 PW1100G-JM engines; Qatar Airways awarded a contract covering the supply of 40 GP7000 turbofans for the A380s it has on order. MTU CEO Egon Behle was pleased to see new orders coming in also for 58 V2500 engines: “The contract wins clearly show that the V2500, which is currently the most important commercial engine for MTU, has the potential to remain successful well into the future.” The PW1100G-JM, Behle went on to say, had once again proved that it offers airlines compelling reasons to opt for it; its innovative technology, he added, marked a new chapter in the history of engines.
MTU Aero Engines, has a workforce of some 8,200 employees. In the military sector, MTU Aero Engines is Germany's industrial lead company for practically all engines flown by the country's air force. A technology leader, the company specialize in low-pressure turbines, high-pressure compressors, and manufacturing and repair techniques.
