Mubadala Aerospace

Corporate Profile: Mubadala Aerospace

Mubadala Aerospace is a core business unit of the Mubadala Investment Company, Abu Dhabi’s sovereign investment vehicle. Since its inception, it has shifted its focus from simple investment to becoming a global industrial player. Rather than operating an airline, Mubadala Aerospace builds the infrastructure, technology, and manufacturing capabilities that sustain the global aviation industry, playing a central role in the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.

Strategic Industrial Pillars

Mubadala Aerospace operates through a “cluster” strategy, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem in the UAE:

  • Advanced Manufacturing: Through Strata Manufacturing, Mubadala has become a Tier 1 supplier for global giants like Boeing, Airbus, and Leonardo, specializing in composite aerostructures (such as wing flaps and tail fins) produced in Al Ain.
  • MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul): This is the unit’s largest sector. By 2026, its flagship entity, Sanad, has cemented its position as a global leader in engine maintenance, supporting the world’s most advanced engines including the GEnx and Rolls-Royce Trent series.
  • Space & Satellite Communications: Through Yahsat (Al Yah Satellite Communications Company), Mubadala provides multi-purpose satellite solutions for government and commercial sectors across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
  • Human Capital Development: The unit invests heavily in training the next generation of Emirati engineers and pilots through partnerships with the Khalifa University and the Abu Dhabi Aviation Training Centre.
2026 Innovation & Expansion
  • The Al Ain MRO Hub: In February 2025, Mubadala and the Tawazun Council announced a landmark, state-of-the-art engine MRO facility in Al Ain. By early 2026, this facility has begun servicing Pratt & Whitney engines, making it the first of its kind in the MENA and South Asia regions.
  • AI Integration: Following the 2026 “AppliedAI” investment, Mubadala Aerospace is actively integrating AI into its manufacturing lines at Strata to optimize “Digital Twin” technology and predictive maintenance for global airline partners.
  • Sustainability: The unit is a key driver in the UAE’s goal for Net Zero 2050, researching sustainable composite materials and high-efficiency engine components to reduce the carbon footprint of the aviation sector.
Global Partnerships

Mubadala Aerospace’s strength lies in its “Deep Partnership” model with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs):

  1. Airbus & Boeing: Strata is a vital part of the supply chain for the A350, A380, and the 777/787 programs.
  2. General Electric (GE) & Rolls-Royce: Sanad provides long-term engine maintenance contracts for these giants, ensuring Abu Dhabi remains a critical stop for global engine logistics.
  3. Lockheed Martin: Collaborative programs for space-based workforce development and advanced defense technology.
