Established in 1993, Oman Air has evolved from a regional operator into a prestigious international carrier known for its high-end service and “Omani Hospitality.” Based at the award-winning Muscat International Airport (MCT), the airline is currently undergoing its most significant transformation to date, pivoting from a transit-heavy model to one that highlights Oman as a premier global tourism destination.

The 2026 Strategic Transformation

Under the leadership of CEO Con Korfiatis, Oman Air is executing a rigorous “Turnaround Plan” aimed at achieving financial break-even by the end of 2026:

• oneworld Alliance Membership: On June 30, 2025, Oman Air officially joined the oneworld alliance as its 15th member. This milestone has integrated Oman Air into a global network, allowing Sindbad loyalty members to earn and redeem miles across partners like British Airways, Qatar Airways, and American Airlines.
• Tourism-Centric Model: The airline has shifted its focus from competing for low-margin transit traffic to “Origin and Destination” (O&D) traffic, supporting Oman’s Vision 2040 by bringing tourists directly to the Sultanate’s unique landscapes and heritage.
• Operational Efficiency: The carrier has streamlined its workforce and simplified its fleet to reduce “insane” complexity, focusing on higher utilization of its most efficient aircraft.

Fleet Rationalization (2026 Status)

Oman Air is in the final stages of consolidating its fleet around two primary families to ensure operational commonality:

1. Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner: The flagship of the long-haul fleet. The airline has phased out its older A330s and consolidated around the 787-9 for its superior efficiency and range.
2. Boeing 737 MAX 8: The backbone of the regional and medium-haul network. By mid-2026, the airline plans to retire its remaining Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 (NG) variants, becoming an “All-MAX” operator for its narrow-body fleet.
3. The “Business Studio”: Replacing traditional First Class, the Business Studio on the 787-9 provides a VVIP experience with private suites, catering to the high-end leisure and corporate market.

Network and Destinations

• European Expansion: In late 2025 and early 2026, the airline launched and stabilized year-round services to Amsterdam (AMS) and Zurich (ZRH), while maintaining strong frequencies to London, Paris, and Frankfurt.
• Regional & Asian Focus: The network is optimized to serve 42 key international routes, with high-frequency “shuttle” services to GCC capitals and a strong presence in the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.
• Terminal 5 – Riyadh: As of February 2026, Oman Air has moved its operations to the new Terminal 5 at King Khalid International Airport (RUH) to enhance the experience for its growing Saudi-based passenger segment.
