Founded in 1957, Royal Air Maroc is the primary flag carrier of Morocco and a leading aviation force in Africa. Headquartered in Casablanca at Mohammed V International Airport (CMN), the airline is currently in the high-growth phase of its “2023–2037 Program Contract” with the Moroccan government. This plan aims to transform RAM from a regional player into a “Global Connector,” quadrupling its fleet to 200 aircraft to support Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

2026 Strategic Expansion: “The Gateway to the Americas”

As of January 2026, RAM is making world headlines with a massive surge in long-haul connectivity:

• The Los Angeles Milestone: In a major move for June 2026, RAM will launch a direct non-stop service between Casablanca (CMN) and Los Angeles (LAX). This 11-hour flight will be the first-ever non-stop link between the U.S. West Coast and Africa, utilizing the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
• New Routes for 2026: In late 2025, CEO Abdelhamid Addou announced nine new routes for the 2026 calendar year, including Saint Petersburg (launched Jan 2026), Beirut, Tripoli, Pointe-Noire, and Spanish destinations Bilbao and Alicante (starting April 2026).
• The JFK Transition: In mid-2026, RAM is scheduled to move its New York operations to the brand-new Terminal One at JFK, becoming the first oneworld alliance member to operate from the state-of-the-art facility.

Fleet Modernization and 2026 Status

To support its 2037 goal of 200 aircraft, RAM is aggressively acquiring new-generation jets:

1. Dreamliner Dominance: The Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 remain the long-haul flagships. By the end of 2026, the airline expects to have increased its Dreamliner count to support daily frequencies to Miami, Washington, and São Paulo.
2. The 737 MAX Surge: As of early 2026, the airline is inducting a wave of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft (including those from a recent lease deal with Avolon) to modernize its medium-haul European and African networks.
3. Future Orders: The airline is currently finalizing a tender for nearly 200 new aircraft (split between Airbus and Boeing), with an expected delivery cadence of 15 aircraft per year starting in 2028.

Hub Strategy: Casablanca 2030

• Terminal 4 Project: In 2025/2026, work has accelerated on the new “Mega Hub” Terminal at Mohammed V Airport. Designed to handle 20 million passengers annually, it will be the cornerstone of RAM’s transit strategy between the Americas, Europe, and its massive African network (currently serving 30+ destinations on the continent).
• The “African Lion” Connectivity: RAM has reached approximately 75% coverage of the African continent by early 2026, positioning Casablanca as the primary alternative to European hubs for passengers traveling from West and Central Africa to the rest of the world.
