Founded in 1948 through a partnership between the Tunisian government and Air France, Tunisair is the historic flag carrier of Tunisia. The 2026 Restructuring & Renewal

• Fleet Target (21 by YE26): In December 2025, the Ministry of Transport announced an objective to reach 21 active aircraft by the end of 2026. This involves returning grounded planes to service through an intensive maintenance push and acquiring fresh capacity through leasing agreements.
• Safety & Maintenance Achievement: In October 2025, Tunisair Technics successfully renewed its EASA PART 145 certificate, a critical “national achievement” that allows the airline to continue maintaining European-registered aircraft and validates its technical compliance with international standards.
• Etihad Partnership: On January 19, 2026, Tunisair signed a major codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways. This strategic move allows Tunisair to expand its reach into the Middle East and Asia via Abu Dhabi, significantly boosting its network without the immediate cost of long-haul fleet expansion.

Fleet and Operational Profile (2026 Status)

The airline is shifting toward a more modern, fuel-efficient fleet to lower operating costs:

1. Airbus A320neo: The new backbone of the fleet. Following a $500 million renewal program, several A320neo aircraft are now in service, offering superior fuel efficiency and upgraded cabin interiors.
2. Wide-Body Strategy: While its Airbus A330-200s have faced maintenance challenges, the airline continues to serve long-haul routes—specifically the Tunis–Montréal corridor—utilizing wet-leased aircraft (ACMI) to ensure uninterrupted service for the Tunisian diaspora.
