Bahrain International Airport Conduct Full Scale Emergency Exercise

Manama, Bahrain, Bahrain International Airport (BIA) conducted a full scale emergency exercise on Tuesday 4th of DEC 2012 South East of the runway.
The drill was a test for the emergency and rescue services at BIA, implementing an airport emergency plan. The exercise was well organized by Bahrain Airport Company and coordinated by the related agencies.
The emergency scenario was of a dummy aircraft crash landed South East of the runway due to a hydraulic failure with fire on board the aircraft on touch down. Actors played the role of passengers, some unscathed, whilst others were injured and deceased. The accident scenario simulated a full scale emergency involving a coordinated effort to tackle the situation by Bahrain Airport Company, the Civil Aviation Affairs, Health, Interior, Defense and Information Ministries, the National Guard, Bahrain Airport Services, Gulf Air and DHL. While the public were informed in advance.
Mohamed Yousif AlBinfalah, CEO of Bahrain Airport Company said, “The exercise plays a major role in identifying both our strengths and weaknesses in our emergency planning and will help us take actions that will further assist in making BIA a safer and more secure Airport operating with International Standards”
A press conference was organised after the exercise by Mohamed Yousif Albinfalah CEO of BAC, Mohamed Thamir Al Kaabi vice president - airport operations and Tareq Ahmed Al Shaikh manager - rescue & fire fighting services.
Emergency exercises are held every two years as required by Bahrain’s Civil Aviation Affairs and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to test and practice the emergency plan that have been drawn up for the Airport.
