Cargolux Boeing 747-8F Lands at Queen Alia International Airport, Jordan

Amman,  a Boeing 747-8F (Freighter) for the first time landed on the 6th of March 6th at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA). The aircraft is operated by Cargolux International, the Luxembourg based international cargo operator.

The 747-8 is the largest commercial aircraft built in the United States, and the longest aircraft in the world.

QAIA is being rehabilitated, expanded and operated by Airport International Group (AIG), a Jordan based consortium consist of the following partners:

  • Invest AD  (The Abu Dhabi Investment Company , UAE) 38%
  • Noor Financial Investment Company (Kuwait) 24%
  • EDGO Group (Jordan) 9.5%
  • J&P (Overseas) limited (Cyprus) 9.5%
  • J&P Avax (Greece) 9.5%
  • Aeroports de Paris Management(France) 9.5%

In  25th July 2007, the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan announced a 25-year agreement with the Airport International Group (ADP Consortium) to expand and rehabilitate the QAIA through a competitive bid process. IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, assisted the government of Jordan in structuring the transaction. While four other international groups had been shortlisted to bid for the build-operate-transfer (BOT) project.

AIG’s investment of US $750 million to build a  new terminal – in addition to US $100 million spent on rehabilitating the terminals currently in use – with the objective to develop the QAIA as a regional niche hub according to AIG.
