According to Jane's Sentinel Security Assessment - The Gulf States (dated: Oct 17, 2011) the Qatar Emiri Air Force

Its equipment is of 1980s vintage and urgently needs to be replaced by more modern helicopters. This process began in 2009 with the delivery of the first of more than 20 AgustaWestland AW139 medium utility helicopters.

Until recently, Qatar lacked transport capability, although this shortcoming has been partly addressed by the receipt of two Boeing C-17 Globemaster IIIs in August 2009; airlift potential will be further enhanced with the delivery of four examples of the C-130J-30 Super Hercules in 2011-12.
