KUWAIT - Kuwait Airways has signed a contract with the aircraft maker, Airbus to purchase 25 new aircraft and to lease 12 aircraft.
The announced at a press conference by Jasara Al Jasara the acting chairman of the board of directors of Kuwait Airways yesterday, who stated the delivery of the new aircraft will begin as of the second quarter of next year.
Al Jasara said: "It is no secret that the situation is bad and dangerous for aircraft, and the company has been under pressure from the insurers and from the airports of different countries.
"We are working in an institutional manner and must put the interest of Kuwait and Kuwait Airways is at the forefront of our attention.
Time is not in our favor of our company and we had to go with this deal after we halted the aircraft deal that was to purchase the aircraft from the Jet Airways of India
The contract was secured following careful consideration of all relevant offers and the receipt of required official approvals, Kuwait Airways stated.
The contract is part of the Kuwaiti national airline's efforts to modernize its fleet with a view to boosting operating profits and revenues in the future, according to the release.
