Qatar Airways Cargo Transferring Operations to Hamad International Airport, Doha

Qatar Airways team during the first cargo shipment at Hamad International Airport, operations started on 1 December 2013.
DOHA - Qatar Airways Cargo, the air freight division of Qatar Airways, made its first cargo delivery on the 1st of  December 2013 
at the newly constructed Hamad International Airport (HIA). The shipment was for Qatar Petroleum transferred from Europe to Doha.

The new cargo terminal, has the capacity to move 5,700 shipments simultaneously and to handle 1.4 million tonnes of cargo per year by 2015, representing a 75 percent increase from the current airport.

The new cargo terminal is built over 77,000 square meters across two levels.  

It comprises a separate aircraft parking apron with 11 wide-body aircraft stands, as well as 42 loading docks, a live animal center, a dangerous goods area and a perishable storage area, making it conducive to handle large and varied cargo shipments.

The landside area of the cargo terminal contains 32 truck-loading facilities, with full X-ray screening systems in place.

HIA’s Cargo Terminal has an automated storage and retrieval system to locate and process up to 1,000 unit load devices (ULDs) at a time. 

Qatar Airways Cargo serves more than 40 freighter destinations worldwide via its Doha hub. The fleet currently includes three Airbus A330F and five Boeing 777 Freighters.

At the recent Dubai Airshow 2013, Qatar Airways has placed a firm order for five new Airbus A330-200 Freighter aircraft. Also included in the order are eight additional A330-200F options, for a total of 13 aircraft.
