Libyan Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Libya, incorporated in 1964 and commenced operations in October 1965 as Kingdom of Libya Airlines. subsequently, it had the name of Libyan Arab Airlines and Jamahiriya Libyan Arab Airlines and finally its current name: Libyan Airlines. It operates scheduled passenger and cargo services covering Libya, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East (30 destinations). Its main base is Tripoli International Airport.

LAAHC  shareholders are four government entities: the Libyan National Social Fund (30%), Libyan National Investment Company (30%), Libya-Africa Investment Fund (25%), and the Libyan Foreign Investment Company (15%).

Libyan Airlines, part of the Libyan Aviation Holding Company, has taken delivery of its first new Airbus A320 aircraft from the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France. The new aircraft, the first of seven on order, will be equipped with On Air in-flight connectivity services allowing passengers to stay in touch with colleagues, family and friends while they travel. Dubai, Libyan Airlines has become a new CFM International customer with the selection of CFM56-5B engines to power seven firm, five option Airbus A320 family aircraft. The firm engine order is valued at approximately $95 million U.S. at list price and the airline is scheduled to begin taking delivery in mid-2010.

Tripoli, ATR and Libya’s flag carrier Libyan Airlines today signed a contract for the purchase of 2 ATR 42-500s, which will become the first ATR aircraft to be operated in the country. The deal, valued at some US $ 35 million, has been inked on the occasionof the LAVEX Air show, which is currently underway in Tripoli.
